PROJECT
ARCH Lab

DESCRIPTION
ARCH Lab (Applied Research of Collective Histories) is a hypothetical research arm of List Arts Center that I created. ARCH focuses on investigating societal norms around topics such as technology, language and history. It does so by bringing in artists and other inter disciplinaries to contribute and research relevant subject matter through an art lens. Serving as an extension of List Art Center’s deeper motivations, ARCH Lab fits into the research ecosystem of MIT.

ARCH LAB IDENTITY The visual identity for ARCH Lab takes inspiration from a variety of sources such as vernacular design, black lettering and code. By combining these three, an unexpected yet cohesive visual language is formed.

COLLECTIVE COGNITIONI imagined the first exhibition of ARCH Lab to be Collective Cognition. The exhibition investigates the role of different topics on our collective consciousness such as societal norms, technology and currency.  This involved curating speakers, artists and resources that would be apart of this exhibition.

GENERATIVE TOOLS  To create a personal connection to the exhibition, I created a ticket generator that produces custom tickets for attendees based on their initials. The accompanying exhibition publication leverages code to produce generative booklets. Code allows for each version of the booklet to be different each time it is printed. Using basil.js, the essays inside the booklet gain a new dimension of insight through visual form–similar to how data visualizations allow us to better understand complex subjects more easily.
